Water injection is supposed to cool down your intake charge. When the pressure switch senses boost, it injects water into your intake. Ideally after the SC or turbo. I guess it is the heat of evaporation that the intake charge gets cooled by.

In a way, it is a quick and dirty type of intercooler. Jackson Racing sells them. I think it is made my ERL or something like that.

I also heard that it increases compression because water is not compressible. But if it evaporates, it will be compressible. So, I'm not sure of this. They also say that since the water takes up space you have less air and fuel mixture.

I read the manual somewhere and it said you can't run the unit continuously for more that 30 sec.

Dumping more fuel into the cylinder also cools it down.

I have a 98 GSR with 6psi JRSC and it's pinging at that range too. If I'm not mistaken, heat is the main cause of detonation. Our ECU's don't put enough fuel in right when the JRSC bypass valve closes. At this point, we get more air and not enough fuel, and heats up. A perfect condition for detonation. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. To cure this problem temporary (while waiting for the Zdyne ECU), I don't do part throttle above 3300 rpm. I floor it instantaneously when I hit 3300 rpm, so I get more fuel in, then when I get beyond 4000 rpm, I go part throttle again. I don't see any detonation at all when I use this method, but this is really bad on gas milege. One time I only got 170 miles to a tank of gas while using this method, but I'd say it's safer for my car this way. Again, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
With this in mind, I'm seriously thinking about installing either water injection (cools down intake temperature by 60-100 degrees F), or a 25 shot Nos (way..way... cool, but maybe too much power for my b18c1). If you have one of these installed on your JRSC'ed car, please let me know if these things reduce detonation or not. Thanks.

This is blowin' my mind! Are you telling me that water is injected into the cylinders to be "burned" with the air fuel mixture via a jet before the blower intake? How is this "correct"? The only thing water can do is evaporate. Sounds like the "riggin'" thing to do for a heat problem. Do I understand this correctly? Tom

    You've got it.

All the water does is evaporate. This takes energy present as heat and converts it to energy keeping the water molecules in a gaseous state.

It takes more heat energy to evaporate the water than the heat energy difference between the injected water and resulting steam. Kind of like a battery that absorbs 200 watts to store 100 watts.

Thus you end up with a lower overall temperature.
